overview of the Turk and Hyde intersection
Turk & Hyde is our corner of the ‘hood

A Tenderloin Think Tank is a gathering of community members committed to discussing and addressing critical issues that affect our neighborhood, city, and world. We have a compelling but friendly exchange every meeting by approaching concerns thoughtfully & respecting each perspective. It is through listening to each other that we learn which is why we’re creating space for interesting people invested in the Tenderloin (TL). The Q&A after their presentation is what inevitably leads to thought-provoking discussion.

We meet every 1st & 3rd Wednesday
mornings at 11am til 12:30pm,
our host is Faithful Fools234 Hyde St.

Although the TL has an undesirable reputation, there’s much more than meets the eye. Not only are we the most diverse neighborhood in San Francisco (which is surely saying a lot), we have the highest number of artists per capita & the most children. The Tenderloin was once the Theatre District & is still a part of the current one. An area has been declared the Compton’s Transgender Cultural District commemorating the current population and their history, such as the Compton’s Cafeteria riot.

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”

― Albert Einstein

The TL’s shared history is such a rich one & we are holding on to our historic buildings to the best of our ability which is why we’ve seen the least gentrification. Many maintain this keeps us rundown yet we’d rather refurbish what we have & keep it affordable; we’re sick of watching our memories being knocked down too. It’s against this backdrop that A Tenderloin Think Tank strives to get a sense of where help is needed. The more we can learn about the neighborhood & our neighbors, the better equipped we are to step in when we can.
